The brief for this new Highland Community is founded on the desire of the Aviemore and Vicinity Community Council for much needed sustainable, energy efficient housing to be provided in a planned way that benefits Aviemore and the wider area in the long term.
Housing available to people in local jobs
As part of the initiative, the proposers have been working for over three years with the Scottish Government, the Cairngorms National Park Authority, the Highland Council and others to explore new ways to assist with occupancy and ownership to build a sustainable community. The An Camas Mòr team have already been involved in several successful initiatives to provide housing at affordable rates using innovative approaches.
The An Camas Mòr team are now seeking names and addresses of people interested in pioneering the new community, and renting property at lower than market rents a proporation of which they will also be able to buy; there will be a range of options to suit individual circumstances. The team are ready to provide up to 80 homes in the first 200 specifically for this purpose. They are also interested in hearing from those who might want to buy on the open market from the start.
The below market rents (“Mid-market rent”) proposed are based on 85% of Local Housing Allowance (LHA) which is the maximum payable in Housing Benefit for specific house sizes and household composition. Currently, that would equate to rents for a 2 bedroom house at approximately £93.20 per week or £404 per month and for a 3 bedroom house, £109.90 per week or £476 per month.
Letter from Highland Small Communities Housing Trust
A letter from Highland Small Communities Housing Trust (HSCHT) will be sent to everyone living in the immediate area who is on the housing list. If you receive a letter it is important that you please complete and return it in the prepaid envelope provided. The results will be summarised and names and addresses will stay confidential within the HSCHT.
If you want your name to go forward for consideration for one of the houses at An Camas Mòr please 'opt in' as indicated on the HSCHT form and you can also complete the survey.
Please note: the Postal Demand Survey being carried out by HSCHT is independent of the developers.
