A Place in the Country
The development of the Broomfield Estate, Blairgowrie, Perthshire, far
from the madding crowd
Edinburgh-based design company Zebrano has completed a metamorphosis in the
last year in line with its long term plans and developed its business to
encompass the whole spectrum of property from the inside out! Zebrano now offers
a multi-disciplinary architectural and interior design and property development
service, showcased in the company's latest project...
The company's major new project is the development of an estate in Perthshire
to create five luxury apartments within the original 1910 country house, the
refurbishment of an original gardener's cottage and coachhouse into a four
bedroom house and three 21st century villas, each set within an acre of land,
each individually designed to create a four or five bedroom home utilising the
latest in modern design and anticipating the trends in environmental issues.
"Utilising the interior design 'layer' of our business we will be able to
offer a complete interior service in the new development," says Isabel Ridley,
Zebrano's Chief Executive, "but we were keen to move to the next stage and offer
a holistic property development and architectural approach to our clients,
enabling them to maximise the potential of their homes. We look beyond interior
furnishings to space planning to meet client requirements."
To that end, architect Ewan Cameron was appointed as Design Director in
September 2006 to head up the design and architectural side of the business.
Ewan has significant UK and international experience in residential property
design, having worked in the Far East as well as Scotland.
The development of the Broomfield Estate provides a showcase for
everything that Zebrano can offer their clients. The location in Blairgowrie is
equidistant to Perth and Dundee and offers a peaceful haven within commuting
distance of both these busy cities. The development itself offers a range of
homes to suit different tastes, from luxurious apartments within the main house
to highly individual family homes.
All will benefit from a unique sense of space since the grounds of the estate
will be landscaped to maintain a rural feel, encouraging a variety of wildlife
and utilising the mature planting which already exists while introducing
woodland walks and a communal entertainment area.
The apartments within the house will retain period features such as cornicing
and the shapes of the existing rooms while the new villas will offer the latest
in flexible open plan living, utilising the latest in home technology and going
beyond compliance with legislation to ensure an environmentally aware
construction. Building materials and contractors will be locally sourced and
partner suppliers carefully chosen to provide bespoke solutions. A factor will
manage the maintenance of the estate and of course a full interior design
service is offered to each home buyer.
Each of the villas will have a unique design - one will be positioned
within the original private walled garden, another in a woodland setting while
the third enjoys views to the adjacent course. Each has been allocated one acre
of garden. Each house will have a different external style, utilising timber or
stone and will enjoy dramatic use of space through double height spaces and
flexible partitioning. Each of the five bedrooms will have an en-suite bathroom
and dressing room and each house will have a double garage.
Broomfield House and the Coach House will have a new external finish to
create a fresh feel. The Coach House, situated at the entrance to the estate, is
a four bedroom renovation with a private garden developed around the house's
original mews and stables.
Anyone looking for an escape from their frantic city lifestyle should look no
further than Broomfield, whether apartment living or family home is your choice,
Broomfield Estate really is 'far from the madding crowd'.
