Ferrymuir Gait (site of the former Forth Bridges Hotel) is a prime development site approx. 10 miles from Edinburgh and 46 miles from Glasgow.
The site extends to approx. 4.2 Ha (10.3 acres) and occupies a prominent position overlooking the Firth of Forth with excellent access links to Edinburgh and beyond.
Approximately half the site, located to the south, was previously occupied by the Forth Bridges Hotel - now demolished. The northern portion slopes down towards housing at Stewart Terrace. The site is bounded to the east by modern housing at Viewforth Road and to the west by the A90, the Bridge Authority HQ and recently upgraded car park.
Vehicular access to the site is from the B800 via Ferrymuir Gait.
The City of Edinburgh Council is supportive, in principle, to a mixed use development incorporating housing, hotel and care home subject to an appropriate pre-application process.
The site was allocated in the Adopted Rural West Edinburgh Local Plan in June 2006 as an Identified Housing Site (HSG5) with a capacity of 117 dwellings.
The site is situated in the town of South Queensferry, approx. 1 mile from the station at Dalmeny with regular trains to both Edinburgh (20 minute journey) and the North. There is a wide range of amenities including leisure, healthcare, banking, post office and supermarket The town is an extremely popular residential location and with several primary and secondary schools nearby it is particularly well suited for families.
