Opened by the-then Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) in 1890, the bridge is the world’s longest cantilever bridge and contains ten times more steel than the Eiffel Tower. To commemorate the occasion there is an abseil over the edge of the famous structure on 21st June and 18th October and the second annual Bridges Festival in September.
