Selling, Letting, Buying, Renting – is Christmas the right time?
Since the summer the property market has been highly active with our teams in all areas seeing massive spikes in enquiries from sellers, buyers, landlords and tenants. But what has been most noticeable is that there are no signs of a substantial slowdown. Yes, there is a softening as we approach the festive period, but when we step back and compare against previous years, then we see a buoyant and active market across all areas and sectors.
At Rettie & Co. we don’t stop for Christmas, so why should you? We do know though that you might have reservations about being on the market through Christmas and New Year, so to help you out we’ve pulled together some thoughts for you to consider.
If there’s one thing 2020 has taught us all it’s that we don’t know what’s around the corner. We do know that the property market is open and that sales and lets are being progressed and completed daily, which means you can be confident that you can act in the certainty that the market is ready for you. Imagine last Christmas if you hadn’t been confident enough to sell early in the New Year and had decided to wait for Spring? Well, you probably would have ended up having to wait for a late summer market instead.
The winter solstice is on the 21st December. It is the shortest day in our calendar, but from this day forward we see a little improvement in our overall daylight every day as we march towards the summer solstice. So, for those who say avoid the winter nights, the dark and damp weather, we say every day has more light than the day before, so why not make the most of it.
When the tree is up, the mince pies are baking and the fire is roaring, there can be no better time to showcase your property. Use this time with its love of decoration to create a warm and welcoming home that shows the next owners or tenants what their Christmas 2021 could be like. Let your imagination run wild but remember to steer away from clutter and keep everything neat and tidy. Less is more as prospective buyers and tenants need the space to be able to imagine themselves in your home.
New Year New You
Last year was the year for thinking about new starts as we entered 2020 and a new decade. Lots of areas and professions countrywide reported upsurges in interest from people looking for a fresh start, new career or a different place to call home. It all got put on hold though, so with the prospect of a vaccine, testing passports and the knowledge that we can actually work from home productively, expect to see lots of people fast forwarding their 2020 plans into 2021. Don’t wait until Spring, catch the wave now as its passing by.
So, on this 2nd day of December as we all look forward to a New Year and for many a new start, remember the team at Rettie & Co. are here for you to help with buying, selling, letting or renting. Seasons greetings to all when they come your way.
