The latest of our New Homes bulletins has been released. The findings have come from our carefully researched data courtesy of the Rettie Research Team, Scotland’s largest dedicated property research department.
Key Findings
- New housing starts and completions have risen again, now close to 19,000 per annum and near the annual target levels suggested by bodies like Audit Scotland and the Commission for Housing & Wellbeing a few years ago. This ties in with figures suggesting a rising construction workload in Scotland, with rising construction costs now a key business concern.
- Performance is variable, however, whereas Edinburgh and East Lothian completions are up around 30-40%, completions are well down in other areas, notably Stirling (down 59% on the year). New starts have risen sharply in Glasgow, particularly in the social sector.
- New building figures in Edinburgh may get another boost from the recent Scottish Government decision to allow the potential development of 1,400 new homes near Edinburgh Airport.
