Southside on the up


Before the West End was cool, it was all about the Southside, and now it’s making a comeback! In 2017 Shawlands was named in the Sunday Times as one of the best places to live in Scotland, and it’s popularity has gone from strength to strength since.

Shawlands is an area in the Southside of Glasgow, circa 5 miles south of the city centre. It is popular with young professionals and young families alike. It boasts two train stations, and is also located on the main road/bus artery to the Southside/city, making it easily commutable to the city centre and beyond.  

Gone is the myth that Southsiders need to travel to the city centre or West End to eat, drink or be merry - it might be cliché but in Shawlands everything truly is on your doorstep. From a variety of bars and restaurants, to outside green space including the renowned Pollok Country Park, which is just minutes away. It is Glasgow’s largest park and the only Country Park within the city, featuring the famous Burrell Collection and Highland cattle. Queens Park also provides a dear green place to relax, walk the dog, picnic or just watch the world go by.


Housing stock is very similar to that found in Hyndland in the West end of Glasgow but with a considerably lower price tag. While the market is rising in Shawlands, both rental and capital values remain proportionately below those of the West End.
