I have lived in the southside of Glasgow for the last 25 years, initially in Whitecraigs before moving to my first flat in Shawlands. Whilst living in Shawlands I met my husband and we relocated back to East Renfrewshire after getting married. We now live in Newton Mearns – a place I am proud to call home.

Why Choose Glasgow Southside?

Many people are drawn to East Renfrewshire for its excellent schools, with four of the top ten ranked secondary schools in Scotland located here: St Ninians (5), Mearns Castle (3), Williamwood (7), and Woodfarm (6).

Ironically, I don’t have children, but I chose to move to the area because I loved the surroundings, the open space, and the property styles. I live in a 1930s bungalow that had only one previous owner and was covered in several layers of woodchip when we first moved in.

First and Last Let

During my time working in lettings in the area, the first property I let was a three-bedroom bungalow on Erskine Road in Whitecraigs, which rented for just £800 per month back in 2002.

The most recent property I let was a three-bedroom semi-detached new build on Uig Drive in Newton Mearns, located within the Maidenhill development. It rented for £1,700 per month in 2024!

A Saturday Night Favourite

Being married to a professionally trained chef (now turned residential surveyor) dining out can be tricky, or maybe I’m just fussy. However, my latest discovery less than two miles from my door is the Malletsheugh. The building has been a local staple for as long as I can remember. Last year, it was taken over by a new family who now run it as an Indian/Scottish bar and restaurant. The tandoori paneer or lamb chops are my go-to dishes. I highly recommend it!

Sunday Stroll

Rouken Glen Park, with its iconic boating pond famously featured in Rab C Nesbitt, will be familiar to many, but it's not just known for that. The park is a fantastic spot for a dog walk, and the garden centre within is like an Aladdin’s cave, offering everything you could possibly need for your garden. Come December, it transforms into Santa’s grotto, boasting more Christmas decorations than even the renowned Lavender Drive could ever need!
