Although I’m from Newton Mearns and still call it home, the West End has always pulled me in with its energy, charm, and streets full of character.

A Local Voice in the Glasgow West End

Back in my student days, it was the bars and late night buzz that first caught my attention, but over the years the fascination has continued. Now, it’s wandering around the boutique shops, cosy cafés, and little corners full of character that keep me coming back and it’s exactly the neighbourhood I am now fortunate enough to specialise in for work.

I started out in mortgages before moving into property management in the West End, which proved to be a true education. Working closely with both West End landlords and tenants gave me a rare, insider view of the local market, what makes a property desirable here, how it performs, and the specific qualities that drive value.

The West End Magic

The West End is as much about its culture and energy as it is about its beautiful homes. The University of Glasgow, with its Gothic spires straight out of Hogwarts, draws students from all over the world, adding a wonderful international energy to the streets.

With cobbled streets, quirky shops, and the sparkly lights of Ashton Lane, the West End has a specific charm all of its own, and we regularly see a mix of both culture seekers and students alike.

Things to Do in the West End

There is always something happening in the West End. Lunch at Wee Paris is hard to beat with scallops, steak, truffle fries, and even better, it is dog friendly too. For a taste of world class dining, Cail Bruich offers a Michelin star experience and showcases the very best of Scottish ingredients right in the heart of the west end.

For a cultural fix, Kelvingrove Museum is ideal, especially to see Salvador Dalí’s Christ of Saint John of the Cross. Afterwards, a stroll through Kelvingrove Park or the Botanic Gardens is the perfect way to take in the green spaces, admire the architecture, and discover the hidden corners that make the West End such a property hotspot!

Neighbourhood Gems

I’ve also had the privilege of bringing on a number of properties on Lancaster Drive, a leafy, peaceful street that is fast becoming one of my favourites in Glasgow. With its elegant period homes, quiet charm, and leafy streets, it completely captures the character that makes the West End so special, and it is a street I am always excited to return to for work!

West End Wonders

Parts of Kersland Street and surrounding lanes have been featured in the Hollywood remake of The Running Man, so some everyday West End streets have been immortalised on the big screen!

Fans of Outlander also may recognise Dowanhill Street, which doubled for Claire and Frank’s home in the TV show, giving the area a touch of silver screen glamour too!
