When restoring or refreshing a historic property, the most successful spaces are those that respect the past while meeting the expectations of modern living. At the Old Course Hotel, that balance has been achieved through thoughtful design choices that celebrate the building's character while creating an inviting and comfortable environment for guests. Among the contributors to the project 'The Roost', whose bespoke approach helped bring warmth, personality and a sense of place to the interiors.

Designing with Character in Mind

Lighting plays an important role in shaping how a space feels. Beyond functionality, it has the power to enhance architectural features, create atmosphere and influence a guest's first impression.

For a property as iconic as the Old Course Hotel, every design decision needed to complement the building's heritage while ensuring a contemporary and welcoming finish. Working closely with the wider project team, The Roost developed lighting pieces that reflected both the history of the building and the expectations of today's luxury hospitality market.

A Bespoke Approach

Rather than relying solely on off-the-shelf solutions, The Roost created a custom lamp base specifically for the project, pairing it with two of the studio's favourite lampshades to achieve a distinctive look.

The result is lighting that feels considered and effortless, adding warmth and texture to the interiors while sitting comfortably within the building's historic surroundings.

Working on the Old Course Hotel was a fantastic opportunity to blend historic character with contemporary comfort. We selected the lighting to complement the building's heritage, while creating a warm, welcoming space for guests. We created a custom lamp base for the project and added two of our favourite lampshades. We're delighted with how it's come together and hope visitors feel at home as soon as they arrive.
