For those who know George, running is nothing new. A dedicated and familiar face in the local running community, he’s an avid parkrunner who is fast approaching an incredible milestone of 190 parkruns. Over the years, he’s also completed numerous half marathons, consistently showing his commitment, resilience, and love of the sport.
But until now, one distance had not yet been conquered, the full marathon.
When the opportunity arose to run the Edinburgh Marathon and raise vital funds for Rock Trust, it felt like the perfect moment to step up. Combining his passion for running with the chance to make a meaningful difference, George took on the challenge without hesitation.
“I’ve always enjoyed pushing myself and having something to work towards,” George explains. “When Rock Trust had places available, it felt like a natural opportunity to go further, both in terms of distance and the impact we can make.”
In the four months leading up to race day, George trained hard, putting in the miles in all weathers and steadily building towards the big event. Like any marathon journey, it took dedication, early mornings, mental strength, and plenty of perseverance. But for George, the motivation went beyond personal achievement.
Rock Trust does vital work supporting young people at risk of homelessness, providing practical help and long-term support to change lives for the better. By taking on 26.2 miles, George is helping raise both awareness and funds for a cause that makes a real difference in our community.
We’re incredibly proud of George’s commitment and determination in completing his first marathon. Taking on 26.2 miles is no small feat, and doing so for a charitable cause makes it all the more inspiring.
If you’d like to support George and contribute to Rock Trust, every donation will go a long way.
Well done, George, an incredible achievement!
