What does Edinburgh look like through the eyes of a child, and what can their perspective teach us about creating a better city for everyone? This October, our Edinburgh team were proud to sponsor Edinburgh Through a Child’s Lens, a city-wide project led by Simpson Studio exploring how Edinburgh could become one of the best cities in the world for children.

Seeing Edinburgh differently

At Rettie, our work is rooted in place. We spend every day thinking about homes, neighbourhoods and the communities that make them special, so we were delighted to support an initiative encouraging a different perspective on the city we know so well.

Across four days, the programme explored how children experience Edinburgh and how their ideas could help shape its future, bringing their voices together with research and professional expertise.

As part of the programme, 'Designing for Childhood in the City' brought together experts to discuss what makes a truly child-friendly city, considering everything from architecture, housing and public spaces to play, independence and inclusion.

Looking to Edinburgh’s future

For Rettie, supporting Edinburgh Through a Child’s Lens reflects our belief that great places are about more than individual properties. The streets, green spaces, neighbourhoods and communities around us all influence how somewhere feels to call home.

We were delighted that our Edinburgh team could support the project and an important conversation about creating an inclusive, welcoming and liveable Edinburgh for generations to come.
