The Rettie Farms & Estates team are proud to bring East Mains Farm to the market.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire an extensive range of commercial and agricultural buildings, a cottage, and a parcel of prime arable farmland.
The farm, standing at around 119.63 acres, is based in Ormiston, Tranent and is available as a whole or two lots.
The variety of assets and current and potential future rental income makes the property an attractive investment. The farm is currently let and generating substantial income (2022 – approx. £147,000).
However, this is not just any farm, East Mains Farm was once home to the world’s most famous sheep, Dolly the Sheep.
Born on the farm on 5th July 1996, Dolly was the first cloned mammal to ever be created from an adult cell and was both created and lived at the farm during her lifetime.
This didn’t hit the press until 22nd February 1997, as Dolly’s birth was kept a secret by her Scottish creators for almost eight months whilst they prepared the Roslin Institutes research paper.
Once released, this took the press by storm and was covered worldwide. Dolly passed away in 2003 and today can be seen in the National Museum of Scotland.
