We are delighted to share our latest detailed Build to Rent Briefing with you on a rapidly emerging new residential market sector in which Rettie are playing an active part.

This Briefing has been put together by our Research Team, the largest of its kind in Scotland, which has been working with a number of developers, investors and government bodies in recent years to help get this new sector established.

Key Findings

  • The number of Build to Rent (BTR) homes built or in the pipeline in Scotland has now increased to over 7,200.
  • The bulk of this supply is in Glasgow (nearly 4,000 homes), with around 2,000 in Edinburgh and just over 1,000 in Aberdeen.
  • As well as providing much needed new homes, the sector is producing a significant economic impact, with the value of construction contracts in Glasgow alone around £0.5bn.
  • There is capacity for more growth, with BTR supply less than 2% of total private rented sector households in Scotland, compared with 3% in the wider UK and close to 9% in London.
